On 5th March, 1918, the 1st Middlesex battalion of 98 Brigade, 33rd Division, moved from their camp at Potijze into support positions in the northern part of the Ypres salient where they remained until relieved on 9th March when they moved back to a camp at Potijze. They were immediately put to work carrying supplies for the Royal Engineers forward to Passchendaele during which they sustained over 20 casualties, including William Gold, who was killed. |
